Gabriela Möslein

Gabriela MosleinGabriela Möslein is Professor of Surgery and Department Head of the Center for Hereditary Tumours at the University Hospital “HELIOS Klinikum Wuppertal” of the University of Witten-Herdecke.

She has a long history as council member of InSiGHT (International Society for Hereditary Gastrointestinal Tumors) and chaired the biennial meeting in 2009 in Düsseldorf. Together with Professor H. Vasen she initiated the Mallorca Group which has now evolved to the EHTG (European Hereditary Tumor Group, an incorporated charitable society.

She is a founding member of the IMRC (International Mismatch Repair Consortium) and became external advisor of InSiGHT for the CFR (Cancer Family Registries). She is also a founding member of the German Consortium for HNPCC and Steering Committee member. She leads the working group on Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer of the German Society of Visceral Surgeons. In September 2017 she was appointed General Secretary of ESCP. Her research activities focus on hereditary predisposition to cancer, prophylactic surgery for hereditary conditions, ileoanal and Kock pouches and chemoprevention

She completed her surgical in a non-university hospital in Bonn, interrupted by a six month stipend at the University of Hyogo, where she trained with Prof. Joji Utsonomiya and was introduced to pouch surgery. She then pursued her pouch interest at the University of Heidelberg with Professor Herfarth and afterwards at the University in Düsseldorf with a focus on hereditary disease including endocrine tumors. Her dedicated interest for FAP and Hereditary disease has decisively led her further career steps and specialization. Further she completed her research year with a DFG-funded stipend to Mayo Clinic, Department of Molecular Genetics headed by Professor Steve Thibodeau.
